Ask These 4 Questions Before You Buy an RV November 1, 2019 Ted Palmer Share Buying an RV is no small investment. At A&M RV Center, we get it. That’s why we encourage customers to ask lots of questions before they buy. You want to be 100% comfortable with your decision to make a purchase of this significance. Trust us, there are no dumb questions! Looking for a good starting place? Here are some good questions to ask when thinking about buying an RV. 1. Can I see the maintenance records? If you’re looking to purchase a used RV, you’ll definitely want maintenance records. These will alert you to previous problems that you’ll need to keep an eye on, such as any water damage, when the tires were last replaced, and when other parts were replaced. By having the maintenance records, you’ll know exactly what has been fixed on the RV.2. What has this RV been used for? Has this RV seen lots of driving hours, or has it been parked most of the time? Generally speaking, when an RV has been driven a lot, its owner usually has taken care of it and maintained it well. However, if it’s been sitting on an empty lot somewhere, that may mean it hasn’t been well-maintained, and you could end up facing some major issues. 3. Can I check everything out?Push every button and lever, try the faucets, the water pump, and any other feature you see. It’s critical to make sure that everything works before you purchase—or if something doesn’t work, that you’re okay with it. If you’re new to RVs, bring along a friend or relative who knows what to look for. 4. Can I take a test drive? If the answer to this question is a “no”, just walk away. Never buy an RV without a test drive. You want to take the used RV onto the open road, floor it, and see how it handles. Try different speeds, go around turns, swerve, honk—whatever! See how everything moves and operates, and make sure you’re comfortable driving it. Remember, we at A&M RV Center are your RV experts.
