Visiting Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park August 5, 2015 Ted Palmer Share Located near the town of Seward, Kenai Fjords National Park features over 30 glaciers, making it one of Alaska’s top-rated destinations. The park is divided into three main sections: Harding Icefield, the coastal fjords, and Exit Glacier. Of the three areas, Exit Glacier is the only part that is accessible by road. Pick up an RV rental from A&M RV Center to begin your journey to Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords. When you get behind the wheel of your motorhome in Anchorage, drive on the Seward Highway, and turn onto the Herman Leirer/Exit Glacier Road at mile marker 3. The road to Exit Glacier Area is paved, so you’ll have a smooth ride the whole journey. While some attractions in Alaska are only open for a specific season, Exit Glacier is open year-round. However, the road to Exit Glacier may be closed during the winter. Before you drive to Seward, be sure to check weather conditions if you are arriving during the shoulder seasons (spring or fall). You can access Exit Glacier by taking a left turn at the Nature Center. You can then begin your journey to Exit Glacier on foot. The trail through the cottonwood forest offers a panoramic view of the destination. When you see a trailside kiosk, turn left to go on the path to the Toe of the Glacier and the Edge of the Glacier. Although the trail may be a strenuous journey, this area of the park presents the most intimate views of Exit Glacier. You can then return on the one-mile loop to get back to your motorhome rental in the parking area. At A&M RV Center, we can provide you with a quality RV rental for your vacation.
