Alaska is a vast wilderness with so much to see and so many new landscapes to explore. When penciling in your next RV vacation across America’s Last Frontier, it’s important to plan ahead of time. Ask yourself: When is the best time to visit? What will the weather be like? How much ground can we cover? Then pick a date and start checking things off your vacation-planning checklist, starting with an RV rental from A&M RV Center. We’ve put together a quick guide to help you with the rest of your Alaskan vacation planning.

When to Plan Your Next RV Adventure in Alaska

When’s the Best Time to Drive Across the State?

If you’re looking for best time to get out and explore in your RV rental, plan your road trip in Alaska anytime between June and August. Not only is the wildlife more active, but the landscape comes alive after all the winter snow has melted. You’ll enjoy views of crystal clear streams and lakes with a backdrop of snow-capped mountain peaks. Because the temperatures are warmer and life is abuzz during these months, campgrounds are also more populated with tourists. If you want a little less traffic and more privacy, plan your vacation at the bookends of the season.

How Long Should Your Trip Be?

Driving across Alaska in your RV rental can take several weeks. While a two-week vacation may be plenty of time to unplug, unwind, and get lost in the wilderness, it’s likely not enough time to see all of the sights. If you want to hit up all sightseeing spots and the popular state parks, we highly recommended that you allow six weeks or more. But, if that’s not feasible for your, then plan a shorter trip to include visiting Anchorage, Denali National Park and Reserve, and Glacier Bay National Park.
